The American Crisis

Does anyone remember the American dream? It's become something that fewer Americans are able to achieve and something that is quickly being lost sight of. With the loss of so many jobs, one of which was mine, and the fact that jobs are being removed from across the entire economic spectrum, it's no wonder that many people are having great difficulties coping with the challenges of everyday life. Do we have any assurance that the worst of this economic crisis is behind us and can begin the process of recovery or have we merely been standing in the sprinkles of a cataclysmic storm that's dark form looms on the horizon of the near future?

The current administration is pumping billions of dollars into a system that is well beyond repair, incurring an amount of debt that the nation simply can't sustain. If, in our personal lives, we spent money the way our government is currently, without the revenue or means to prop it up, we would be in bankruptcy! With every penny the country's debt increases, the value of the dollar goes down. At what point will the dollar have to be replaced with a currency that will be able to compete in world markets and be sustainable as a reserve currency? Is it any coincedence that world leaders have, as of late, been promoting the institution of a new world currency, to replace the failing currencies of the world, in an attempt to avoid a future economic crisis of this magnitude? Proponents of a world currency have been advertising it's necessity for years, but it's likely to actually become a real possibility in the next few years, especially if the economic situation for many countries doesn't drastically improve.

What would actually happen in America, and the rest of the world for that matter, if the economy of the United States collapsed? Surely there would be civil unrest and mass protests, as the vast majority of the populace would blame the government for the crisis. As banks began to close and people started to see their retirement savings disappear along with all their investments, being that the largest portions of those investments have been made in dollars, panic would ultimately ensue as the fact that the daily neccessities of life would be impossible to procure. Where could the nation possibly go from there, and is this a real possibility for our country? I believe that if we continue to spend the way we have and if current policies aren't drastically changed, that this will likely be the future of America. Many people have predicted an economic collapse for this country and all the signs seem to be in place. Launching this enormous stimulus package cannot fix the ailing economy and at best, it will be like putting a band-aid on a sucking chest wound.

Whatever the future holds for this economy and our country, the certainty is that we will not come through this unscathed and while I pray that the future is bright, the feeling in my stomach tells me otherwise. Now is the time to be informed, to educate ourselves about what is going on or it will soon be too late to do anything at all. We need to band together as a people and voice our concerns to our representatives, to preserve what was fought and bled for, and stand up for the liberties that God Almighty granted not just the American people, but every human being in the world. May God bless this great nation and give it's people a heart to return to Him.

I completely agree with you. Most people do not realize how bad the ecomony really is. The sad part is our children and grandchildren will be getting the worst of it.

Great name, observingthefall,, how appropiate.

A world currency sounds good, but it would be a problem for our Government which is printing money faster than my wife can spend it. It is true that a world currency would level the Playing field, but I can't imagine any of the Major countries signing on. Guess we will just have to keep up with the money exchange and watch the dollar lose more ground.. We all are observing the fall..

Thanks for joining my fan club, I will return the favor.

Thanks for the comment. I agree that the major countries would have a problem with it, being that a country's currency is paramount to a country's national sovereignty, but some of the larger countries such as China, have already advocated the institution of a single, global currency. I am totally against it, but we'll have to wait and see what happens. Thanks again.

I used to believe in the American Dream, but it seems to be turning into the American Nightmare. I don't know where it will all end, and I'm with you...I pray for a bright future, by my gut tells me different.
